Soooooooooo it is officially breathing time. Ok, maybe not breathing time, but a moment to gather my thoughts. Its also time to regroup and share what the heck has been going on!!! Let’s (just for a minute) discuss the end of the MasterChef season.
Did you watch the grand finale? I did. How lucky am I… I was surrounded by some of the former contestants (dear friends): Alejandra Schrader, Esther Kang, Jennie Kelly, Giuseppe Morisco and of course, the savant himself, finalist Adrien Nieto.
Although we had been privy to the outcome, we were all still awaiting the final product of the show. Our gathering was a small reunion, hugely in honor of our dear friend Adrien who had cooked with heart, soul, and inspiring creativity the entire season. We knew the night would bring happiness to some, sadness to many others, and closure to all.
Truth be told I love both Jenny and Adrien. In the end however, there would only be one winner. This was expected.
What had not been expected were some ferocious tears! It seemed as though the tears that stung and trickled down my cheek the night of the finale, were just as fierce as the actual day of the taping. Why tears? In all honesty, I was really destroyed for Adrien at the time of the finale (actual taping). Don’t get me wrong, I was elated for Jenny B and her life-changing win! She is an absolute sweetheart, a wonderfully talented cook, a fearless woman, and dear friend who will represent the MasterChef brand phenomenally.
With that said , I think with Adrien I felt comradery as though his love of this craft rivaled own. Shortly after meeting him we all realized his true love is cooking. In the end, the majority of us knew he wanted (and believed he needed) that win more than any of us…hence the devastation.
With a crazy innate talent that stems from the ability to simply create and execute without fear, rules, or boundaries, I can’t help but draw the similar conclusions echoing the fabulous Ben Starr… Adrien Nieto has the talent and ability to change the landscape of the food world. I have no doubt that he will.
In Ben’s blog (www.benstarr.com) he mentions the outcome was probably a blessing for both Adrien and Jenny based on what they wanted out of the experience. Jenny is made for everything the MasterChef win will bring, and everything that flows to Adrien will surely be more than expected…again the brilliance of Ben! Although my tears the day of the finale were shed for what I thought was a “loss” for one, my tears this past week were entirely different.
Since the wrapping of the show back in March, I think most of the top 18 has at one point gone through some type of emotional journey (we’ll chat about mine in just a minute) J. I’m guessing we might all have a touch of post-reality show syndrome (whatever that is). Anyhow, my recent and new set of tears came from the realization that myself, as well as my former competitors and dear friends are in the process of coming full circle.
In regards to those who are in the photo above…here’s a brief update since the wrapping of the show:
Latin goddess Alejandra Schrader and I have joined culinary our talents! We decided to turn our individual love and passion for cooking, into a company that can allow us to do what it is we enjoy: cooking. Over a month ago we launched our newest endeavor, Cucina Cocina. We have been cooking non-stop ever since. For more details check out:

While we’ve been cooking, Esther Kang has been baking! Her gourmet cookie company Batch From Scratch has just exploded with all sorts of amazing press. She is on her way to the empire. Check out her amazing website: www.batchfromscratch.com
The stylish Jennie Kelly has been exploring her creative side and love of food by moving forward into the world of food styling. She is inventively making plates look lovely while making many hungry! Check out www.theperfectlastbite.com/
Stallion Giuseppe Morisco has been busy cooking up a storm of Italian goodness. He launched his awaited website www.italyunderground.com which shares his love for his country, travel, and food, as well as his famous recipes. Soon he will be Italy’s ambassador…mark my words.
Spicy Adrien Nieto is cooking up a storm and having food/cooking offers thrown at him left and right, it looks like now his only problem is abundance! He is in the process of uploading some great videos to You Tube, has a website www.adriennieto.com and is also learning that “winning” just may mean coming in second in a “reality” cooking competition.
More to come….
